Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Apriori Scents LLC (“A Priori,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use aprioriscents.com, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.

Information we collect

• Order & contact details — name, email, shipping address, and phone if provided.
• Payment information — processed by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
• Account information — if you create an account, sign-in is handled by Clerk.
• Your scent data — quiz answers, materials you choose, saved formulas, re-cut notes, and the feedback you give after wearing your scent. We keep these so we can remake your scent exactly.
• Photos you upload — if you make a scent from a photo. See “Your photos” below.
• Chat conversations — if you design a scent in chat, your messages and any images you share there, which we keep with the formula they produced.
• Formula contact details — if you file your formula, the name and email you give us. We use them to keep your formula on file and to send occasional marketing emails you can unsubscribe from at any time.
• Gift recipient details — if you buy a gift card, the recipient’s name and email so we can deliver it.
• Reviews — ratings and comments you send us. We quote a review on the site only if you said we could.
• Event & wedding enquiries — your name, email, and event details such as date, venue, region, and guest count, plus any answers you give before a scent fitting.
• Usage & device data — pages viewed, approximate location, device and browser information, the site that referred you, and ad-click identifiers, collected through cookies and similar technologies (see “Cookies & tracking”).

Your photos

When you upload a photo to make a scent, it is sent to OpenAI, whose image model reads its light, color, and atmosphere to set your formula’s direction. We then keep the photo with that formula so it can be printed on your 30 ml label and carried over to reorders. If you don’t order within 90 days, we delete the photo automatically; the formula itself stays on file.

Your photo is used for your bottle and nothing else. We don’t publish it, use it in marketing or advertising, or share it with anyone beyond the service providers who read and store it for us. Email hello@aprioriscents.com and we’ll delete it.

How we use it

• To compose, compound, and ship your scent, and keep your formula on file for reorders and re-cuts.
• To send order confirmations, shipping updates, and — if you file a formula or opt in — occasional marketing emails you can unsubscribe from at any time.
• To operate your account and scent library.
• To reply to event and wedding enquiries.
• To measure and improve the site and our advertising.
• To prevent fraud and comply with law.

How we share it

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers that help us run the business:

• Stripe — payments.
• Clerk — accounts and sign-in.
• Neon — our database, where orders, formulas, and photos are stored.
• Resend — email delivery.
• OpenAI — reads uploaded photos, runs the scent chat, and writes scent descriptions.
• fal — generates label artwork from your formula. It receives a description of the scent, not your name, email, or photo.
• Meta, Google, and PostHog — advertising measurement and analytics (see below).
• Shipping carriers — your name and address, to deliver your order.

We also disclose information when the law requires it.

Cookies & tracking

We use the Meta Pixel and the Google Ads tag to measure our advertising, and PostHog to understand how the site is used. When you place an order or file a formula, we also send Meta a hashed (scrambled) copy of details such as your email so it can match the conversion to an ad; Meta receives your IP address and browser type with it. A first-party cookie records which ad or site first sent you here, so we can tell which ads lead to orders. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking them may affect how the site works.

Your California privacy rights

If you are a California resident, the CCPA/CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect, to access, delete, or correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information, including sharing for cross-context behavioral advertising like the ad measurement described above. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@aprioriscents.com. We will not discriminate against you for doing so.

Data retention & security

We keep your formula, and the conversation it came from, for as long as you might want to reorder, unless you ask us to delete them. Photos are kept the same way once you order; if you don’t, they are deleted after 90 days. Other information is kept as long as needed to provide the service and meet legal obligations. We use reasonable measures to protect it; no method of transmission is perfectly secure.

Children

The site is not directed to anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
